YouTube Official Artist Channel: What It Is and How It Works
An Official Artist Channel is a YouTube channel recognized as the main channel for an artist or band.
It brings together content from different sources: the videos you upload yourself, tracks officially distributed on YouTube Music, and, where applicable, content from your VEVO channel.
One of its distinguishing features is the music note icon that appears next to the artist's name.
The goal is to make your discography easier to access without requiring listeners to search for your tracks across multiple channels.
An Official Artist Channel also provides access to features designed for musicians, including YouTube Analytics for Artists.
What's the Difference Between a Regular YouTube Channel, a Topic Channel, and an Official Artist Channel?
When an artist starts publishing music on YouTube, several channels can coexist.
A regular YouTube channel is the one you create and manage yourself. You can upload your music videos, studio videos, concerts, or Shorts there.
A Topic channel is automatically generated by YouTube to feature an artist's tracks. It may appear after tracks are distributed on YouTube Music. You don't manage it the way you manage your personal channel.
An Official Artist Channel brings these different presences together. Your uploads and music catalog can then be presented in a shared space, with a consolidated audience.
This distinction matters: distributing a track on YouTube Music does not automatically turn your personal channel into an Official Artist Channel.
The Benefits of a YouTube Official Artist Channel
Bring Your Music and Subscribers Together
When an Official Artist Channel is created, YouTube can combine subscribers from your personal channel, your Topic channel, and, if you have one, your VEVO channel.
This consolidation makes it easier for people who follow you to find your new uploads.
Present Your Discography in One Place
Your Official Artist Channel organizes your music content and makes your tracks, albums, and music videos easier to access.
A listener who discovers one of your tracks can then explore your catalog and the videos you upload more easily.
Access Analytics Designed for Artists
YouTube Analytics for Artists lets you view data about your music and audience. This information can help you understand which tracks generate the most interest and how listeners discover your work on YouTube.
Make Your Profile Easier to Identify
The music note next to your name allows listeners to identify your Official Artist Channel among the different YouTube results.
This status makes your music presence easier to recognize, without guaranteeing an increase in views or higher rankings for your videos.
Requirements for Getting an Official Artist Channel
YouTube has several eligibility criteria.
In particular, you must:
- Own and manage a YouTube channel dedicated to a single artist or band.
- Have at least one official music track distributed on YouTube by a music distributor or record label.
- Follow YouTube's policies, including those on copyright and the Community Guidelines.
You must also meet at least one of YouTube's additional requirements, which include working with a Partner Manager, participating in the YouTube Partner Program, or distributing your music through a music partner listed in the YouTube Services Directory.
YouTube also recommends uploading at least one public video to your personal channel in addition to your official music release. This video is not presented as an absolute requirement, but its absence may result in a rejection or additional checks.
How Do You Get a YouTube Official Artist Channel?
The request process involves several steps.
1. Create and Prepare Your YouTube Channel
If you don't have a channel yet, create one under the name of your music project.
Add a profile picture, a banner, and a description that identifies your work as an artist. You can also upload a music video or another video that represents your music.
What matters is having a channel dedicated to your project that you own and manage.
2. Distribute at Least One Track on YouTube Music
To qualify for an Official Artist Channel, you must have at least one official release delivered to YouTube by a distributor or label. Simply uploading a music video to your personal channel does not fulfill this requirement.
A music distributor handles, among other things, the delivery of your audio file and its metadata to platforms.
With Dibsteur, you can distribute your tracks on YouTube Music as well as other streaming platforms, including Spotify, Deezer, and Apple Music.
3. Request Your Official Artist Channel with Dibsteur
Once your music is available on YouTube, you can request the creation of your Official Artist Channel.
Dibsteur helps artists with this process and can submit a YouTube Official Artist Channel request on behalf of its clients.
To prepare your request, make sure you have a YouTube channel dedicated to your music project and at least one track officially distributed on YouTube Music.
The distributor may ask you for the information needed to identify your channel and music catalog.
The request is then submitted to YouTube, which checks the eligibility requirements before approving official status.
4. Wait for YouTube's Approval
YouTube reviews Official Artist Channel requests and may carry out additional checks.
Eligibility does not guarantee acceptance, and YouTube does not publish a universal approval timeframe that applies to all requests.
When your channel receives official status, your different content and audiences can be brought together in accordance with YouTube's process.
Can You Get an Official Artist Channel Without a Distributor?
There is no universal button in YouTube Studio that allows all artists to request an Official Artist Channel directly. YouTube directs artists to their record label, distributor, or an authorized music service partner.
If you don't already work with a distributor, you will therefore need to identify a partner that can officially deliver your music to YouTube and assist with your request.
Dibsteur offers music distribution and can also handle YouTube Official Artist Channel requests for its clients.
Why Isn't My Official Artist Channel Showing Up on YouTube?
Several situations can explain the absence of official status. Your music may have just been distributed, and your request may not have been processed yet. Your channel may also fail to meet all the eligibility criteria, or YouTube may require additional checks.
Start by checking that your official track is available on YouTube Music and that your channel meets the requirements. You can then contact your distributor to check the status of your request.
If you have multiple channels or your music is associated with the wrong artist profile, report that issue as well so the appropriate correction can be identified.
Official Artist Channels and YouTube Content ID: Two Different Functions
These two tools address different needs. An Official Artist Channel organizes an artist's presence on YouTube and brings their music content together.
YouTube Content ID is a rights management system that can automatically identify certain uses of copyrighted content in videos uploaded to the platform.
Getting an Official Artist Channel therefore does not automatically activate Content ID for your tracks. Conversely, an artist can have their rights managed through Content ID without having an Official Artist Channel.

Build Your Music Presence on YouTube
An Official Artist Channel brings your tracks, videos, and subscribers together under a single profile. It's a way to present your music more clearly to listeners and build your presence on YouTube.
To get one, you must, among other things, own a channel dedicated to your music project and have distributed at least one official track on YouTube Music.
Dibsteur helps you distribute your music and can also submit your YouTube Official Artist Channel request.
